The ‘Jane Morris Museum’ is a non-profit body devoted to the life of Pre-Raphaelite ‘muse’ Jane Morris. An art- and research project by Dutch artist Margje Bijl. Margje is exploring the concept of visualising a double biography by carefully selecting the images, objects and stories that either define her connection with Jane Morris or reveal a contrasting portrait of her authentic self.
Margje’s multidisciplinary approach to Jane Morris reflects her own background, of a wide range of studies from fine art and photography to creative writing and psychology.
Coming up
Enthusiastic to share news about the study day Named/Nameless: William Morris and the Radical Imagination (19 January 2026).
It is organised in conjunction with the exhibition Beauty of the Earth: The Art of May, Jane & William Morris. Curated by Dr Suzanne Fagence Cooper and on show till 4 February 2026 at the Arc, Winchester.
“With talks from leading figures working in relation to legacies of Pre-Raphaelitism and the Morris family, this will be an excellent opportunity to engage with the workings of the latest artistic and research-based practices revolving around the Morris family and their wider circle.”
It was an honor to be invited as a guest speaker and I am looking forward to sharing my investigations, processes and engagements with Jane Morris.
